One way or another was an exhibition featuring work by the 42 artists with whom Posture Editions made a book over the past decade. This independent publisher of artists' books, founded in 2011, had by then published 47 books in A4 format. The publication series has been able to grow thanks to the enthusiasm of many artists, writers, museums, curators and readers.
In choosing artists, Nikolaas Demoen, Katrien Daemers and Stien Stessens are guided by their personal intuition. Young gods, mature icons, mavericks and forgotten artists alternate unpredictably and without any objective coherence.
Posture Editions does not tread a straight path, but makes circular movements, detours, goes into a dead end, and arrives across the field, forming a surprisingly diverse map of contemporary art in Belgium.
Both the exhibition at the S.M.A.K. and the book of the same name follow the logic of a timeline. The book can be read in the order of the exhibition and the exhibition is constructed according to the logic of the book.
