Pei-Hsuan Wang about the Gourd Demons:
"Gourd Demons are sculptural simulations for my sancai pieces*. Details, textures, and glaze interactions on these demons allow me to better understand the materials and help to develop my project Gratitude Is A Colored Vessel (2023). These playful, naughty creatures are shaped like Taiwanese loofah gourds – based on my mother's gourd harvest from her rooftop garden. Gourd Demons are intimate, personal studies not meant to be shown publicly. They are also a homage to my mother and my way of missing home."
