Marie Zolamian: upcoming book
Book available 20 Feb:
Marie Zolamian (born 1975, Beirut) is a Belgian-Lebanese multidisciplinary artist of Armenian descent who grew up in Lebanon until the age of fifteen.
Zolamian’s visual work lies at the intersection between colorful, familiar scenes, art historical references, and a déjà vu-like dream world in which magical silhouettes and creatures appear. She draws inspiration from icons and ex-votos, and the images that illustrated the first medieval books: illuminated manuscripts and the art of miniature paintings — Persian, Armenian, Indian and Western.
The book ‘Le jardin sans soleil’ [The sunless garden] accompanies the exhibition ‘Confabulations’ at WIELS Brussels, 21 February to 17 May 2026.
Opening: Friday 20 Feb at 7 pm at WIELS
This publication brings together a selection from Marie Zolamian's extensive oeuvre, focusing on her many drawings, rarely shown to the public, and a well-chosen series of recent oil paintings.
The book contains an interview with Sofia Dati and Marie Zolamian and essays by Vanessa Desclaux and Antony Hudek.
