In his work, Nicolás Lamas (b. 1980) deals with notions of chaos and order as entangled forms of organisation that widely cross disciplines, cultures and sensibilities. In order to show these associations, the book The Attraction of the Mountains aims to synthesise the complex universe that the artist has been composing in the recent years. This composition is being made out of random encounters, pictures taken by the artist, materials from his personal archives, quotes, online images and documentation of his work, thus adopting an expansive strategy as its method.
This methodology allows the reader to focus on the fascinating potential that friction, equilibrium and tension between images, objects and language has when it comes to imagine new cosmologies of interpretation. And so the reader is expected to conduct its navigation by means of exploring the trivial, the fugitive, the transitory and the ephemeral as some among the infinite possibilities to face it. The Attraction of the Mountains is both one and many books.
