Carole Vanderlinden (1973) studied at KASK in Ghent, and lives and works in Brussels. She paints and draws.
Vanderlinden’s paintings touch you straight away. They are direct, compact, powerful and funny. They are disarming, nod towards art history, and are at once extremely rich, but very simple. Each of her works is different to the others. Yet certain elements also recur: diagonally painted framing, plant motifs, skies and bodies of water, contrasts between thick and thin or matt and glossy passages of paint, and textures that give the impression you can see through to what lies beyond.
Carole Vanderlinden is a great admirer of Giotto, Bruegel, Cranach, Patinir, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Cézanne, Matisse, Ensor and Picabia. But what her work expresses most strongly is her love of nature in all its facets, be it animals, crystals, mountains or plants. (Hans Theys)
